After sixty years of theatrical and performance research, Ewa Benesz, student of the great Polish stage director Jerzy Grotowski, decides to leave Italy and return to Lublin, the city she fled in the 1980s during Polish martial law. Advancing age forces her to interrupt her workshops, which involve people from all over the world. She will therefore have to say goodbye to her students, some of whom have had a bond with her for decades.
Ewa Benesz’s theatrical practice and research, born from the privilege of being one of the few direct students of Grotowski and enriched then through her personal experience, draw on a tradition and a practice that can only be transmitted personally, and there is therefore a strong risk that her knowledge will be lost forever. The film, recounting her return to Poland, addresses this urgency by confronting the silent burden of a life spent in exile, by confronting a journey that is both a conclusion and a return to her origins.
